TESTING SOUND OF OBJECTS ON SPEAKERS

By doing this experimentation with various types of objects on the speakers I realized
that if all the objects are directly on the speaker they all sound pretty much the same,
because when they "jump" on the speaker the sound of the objects hitting the speaker
is heard. So I will try this out by covering the speaker with different materials, such as
tin foiled like in the last video.

Also, another issue that i have encounter is the sound of the frequency that is making the speaker vibrate overcomes the sound of the objects, and this is something I want to try
to tackle by somehow minimizing the volume of the frequency/sound coming out of the speaker, but still making the speaker vibrate enough to make the objects react as I wish.

The pieces of thin foil have an interesting metallic
sound and look very interesting, is almost like there
is no gravity! To me it reminds me of walking on the
the moon! (Yes, because I've been there!)

I really like the sound effect of the knives
but the visual effect is not as interesting, but
will definitely use the knives.

This combination has more an interesting
visual effect than am audible one. I have noticed
that when the objects are directly on the speaker,
they tend to sound very similar, so I will try
testing with some kind of material covering the
speaker.

The pieces of glass against the glass lid
work really well audible and visual in my opinion.

This is the first experimentation with more than
one speaker and different objects. Once I find out
what kind of frequency/sound I should use in
order to create a good amount of vibration
without being very audible this combination
will work better.

THE STARS OF THE SHOW...

I found on ebay these subwoofer cones which cost me £20 each. They are originally £23.99 each but I managed to negotiate with them to make me a discount since i was buying 8. I think it was a good business and since I work allot with speaker cones, it's an investment!!!! They are good for what I want but to be honest for subwoofers they sound a but thin!!!!

SEARCHING FOR INTERFACES.....

Accidental bumped into this small interface, on the internet, that has 8 outputs, that can correspond to 8 mono and 4 stereo outs, which is perfect for what I want. The interface only costs between £100 and £130 and can be used with apple and Logic. GOOD WORK!

The only thing is that it's out of stock everywhere but I managed to find it in thomann.de
Going to buy it right now!!!

LOOKING FOR AMPLIFICATION......

Useful link about amps and speaker power requirements:

http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/34579/109138.html

I am looking for a portable and easy way of amplifying the 8 speaker cones. So I have been looking at distribution amps or DAs, a link explaining what these are follows:

http://www.extron.com/company/article.aspx?id=selectingda&version=print

DAs would be a good solution if I only had 1 sound source but I need at least 4 separate inputs ( for 4 sound sources which are 4 stereo tracks in logic) and 4 stereo outputs or 8 separate inputs (for 8 sound sources which are 8 mono tracks in logic) to go to 8 mono outputs.

I've been also looking at small power amplifiers circuits, which I found in maplins:

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=46467

The amplifier can only power one speaker and it needs a voltage transformer to put the voltage from 230Vac to 35Vac which costs another £15, which means I will have to spend £240 to power the 8 speakers. WAY OVER THE BUDGET!!!!

FOUND AMPLIFICATION! OOHOO!

I manage to get 2 amplifiers from ebay that cost me £30 ea
ch, so I can plug 4 speakers. Since I have one amplifier at home i have amplification for 6 speakers. So I need to buy one more amp! They are a bit big, but all the other option I found were quite expensive and don't suit this project!

The amp I had...the cat came with it!

The vintage amps got from ebay!
